We need real, lasting repairs to our wastewater system
Islamorada’s wastewater system is on the brink of disaster, and I am committed to addressing it head-on. Since 2019, nine leaks have occurred at Mile Marker 92, spilling untreated sewage into our environment.
Despite $6.5 million budgeted since 2020 to address these issues, the leaks persist. Now, another $2 million has been allocated for repairs in the 2024-2025 budget. That's $8.5 million spent without fixing the problem.
This isn’t just about money—it's about our water quality and our community's health. I will ensure that these funds are spent wisely, finding the expertise we need to implement real, lasting repairs to our wastewater system.
It’s time to prioritize the health and safety of our community and environment. It’s time for someone to step up and get this job done right.
Let’s work together to fix this once and for all.
